Building a custom motorcycle is a lot of fun. But, it is a long process. It took me more than 2 years to build this custom HONDA CB550 motorcycle. Below is a list of most components used in the making of BLACKSQUARE. I hope this is of some help to fellow aficionados and cafe racer builders.
FRAME: original 1977 HONDA CB550F. Modifications: trimmed tail section, removed passenger foot peg supports, removed kick stand bracket, removed center stand brackets, removed seat hinges, removed seat lock, new welded-on mufflers support panels, new welded-on kick stand bracket.
ENGINE: original 1977 HONDA CB550, bead-blasted, detailed and completely rebuilt from the ground up with OEM parts MADE IN JAPAN. No modifications.
CARBURETORS: original KEIHIN completely rebuilt with OEM parts. Custom, solid brass shaft for the main stay.
VELOCITY STACKS: solid brass traditional bell-shaped by STEEL DRAGON PERFORMANCE
TANK: “Dolphin” by BENJIE’S CAFÉ RACER
GAS CAP: custom domed bobber gas cap by SPEED DEALER CUSTOMS
WHEELS: by DEVON RIM COMPANY, stainless steel rims (19” front, 18” rear) and spokes (the only rim manufacturer in the UK allowed to stamp their rims “MADE IN ENGLAND”)
TIRES: AVON Speedmaster
INNER TUBES: BRIDGESTONE
WHEEL HUBS: completely rebuilt with new ball bearings and brake shoes; front HONDA CL450, rear original HONDA CB550
FRONT FORKS: original HONDA CB550, completely rebuilt
REAR SUSPENSION: custom stainless steel by HAGON
HEADLIGHT: antique solid brass with custom aluminum brackets
CABLES: stainless steel by BARNETT
HANDLE BARS: custom, stainless steel
THROTTLE ASSEMBLY: custom, aluminum
BRAKE & CLUTCH LEVERS: aluminum, EMGO
EXHAUST: custom, stainless steel header pipes, EMGO tulip-shaped mufflers, stainless steel clamps.
EXHAUST PIPE CLAMPS (“JOINT EX. PIPE”): custom, aluminum
FOOT PEGS: custom, aluminum
BRAKE PEDAL & GEAR SHIFTER LEVER: custom, aluminum
CHAIN: TSUBAKI O-ring chain
TAILLIGHTS: re-finished antique housings, new LUCAS glass lenses, customized brackets.
TAILLIGHTS’ VISORS: custom, brass
LICENSE PLATE HOLDER: custom, stainless steel & aluminum
REAR FENDER: bobbed, original HONDA
CHAIN ADJUSTERS: custom, solid brass
KICK STAND: modified, HONDA
IGNITION START BUTTON: custom with custom aluminum bracket
BATTERY: lithium, BALLISTIC EVO-2
