During this entire project, I never stopped marveling at HONDA’s designers’ ingenuity, style and sense of balance and proportion. Everything looked and felt as close to perfect as it could be under the circumstances in the 1970’s particularly considering the limitations imposed by competitive pressures and the need to minimize cost. Every time I thought of using custom parts I felt uneasy: How dare I? Did I have the knowledge and expertise?
I wasn’t entirely sure.
But the need to stick to the original plan and pursue my own ideas of “optimizing form and function” eventually prevailed.
Replacing the original steel-and-rubber foot pegs, brake pedal and gear shifter with aluminum custom-made parts offers a tempting opportunity to reduce the bike’s weight by a few pounds. And they just might look better.
